By this time, the movement had begun to diverge from its Realist roots, embracing a more expressive and spontaneous approach to light and color. Josephson’s use of impasto brushwork imbues the scene with tactile immediacy, while his palette of earthy tones muted browns, beiges, and reds evokes the rustic simplicity of a traditional Swedish cottage.In this context, the artwork presents an intriguing case study in the behavior of architectural scale. When enlarged to 61×44 inches, the spatial depth and chromatic structure of Interior of a Cottage undergo significant transformations. The palette, initially characterized by its earthy tones, takes on a rich, almost three-dimensional quality, as if the very walls and furniture are infused with an organic substan
